Under 14 Div 4 Final V Kilbride

Duleek Bellewstowns U14’s secured a fine win in the Division 4 Final against Kilbride on Monday night last (20th August). This refixed game always promised to be challenging after the first game had been abandoned at half time, with Kilbride winning well, due to a waterlogged pitch. However the lessons from the first game were well learned by the Duleek lads.

Duleek attacked this game from the start establishing their dominance mid-way through the first half with a series of well taken goals. These scores would have broken the resolve of another team, but Kilbride had shown Duleek on two occasions earlier in the season how they always finished strong.  And so they did.

As the teams took to the pitch in the second half, the rain poured down and Kilbride sensed an opportunity for a comeback with an early goal. Duleek responded with a point but it was Kilbride in the ascendancy.

As Kilbride gained a foothold, it was however to be Duleek’s goal scoring threat in the form of Morgan Brown which was to prove decisive. His four goals on the night secured the win. Alongside Brown, splendid displays from captain Dean Brodigan, Callum Cooney, Evan Ryan and Adam Noone were backed up by staunch performances by Crosby, Hamilton and Seery at the back. Carolan at centre back was full of running finding his man each time with telling passes. Up front McGroggan, Butler, Maguire, Smullen, Mimna and Beggy were doing the business with fine scores and also presenting Duleeks first line of defence.  Jordan Lynch Daly and Joe Corduff worked and ran the length of the field in support of the cause and Richie Kearns had yet another fine display in goals pulling off some fine saves. Ryan Tuohy, a stalwart of the Duleek defence throughout the campaign missed the game due to holidays.

A fitting reward for the 40 well attended game and training sessions. A testament to the depth of talent in Duleek with a panel of 42 players at this age group.  A display that made the parents, fellow panel members, spectators and most especially their coaches very proud.

A great end to this year’s U14 season.

Final Score:   Duleek/Bellewstown  8-03       Kilbride 2-07
